If alligators interest you, then a day out at Gatorland is a must. At Gatorland you can see alligator wrestling shows, alligators leaping from the water to grab their lunch or you can even grab a gator for your lunch. The restaurant offers alligator ribs and nuggets, amongst the more familiar fast food. Gatorland is considered to be a 'half day attraction' which takes nothing away from this interesting park which has been in operation since 1949. Gatorland is so much more than alligators, here you can also see crocodiles, an aviary, petting zoo, bird sanctuary, and a train ride. Animal shows are conducted several times daily and include -
Gator Jumparoo
Watch alligators jump 4 - 5 foot out of the water as they hungrily snap at food. I can testify that this is a spectacular feat as I personally saw an alligator instantly leap several feet in the air to catch an ice cube (of all things) which was thrown into the lake at Kennedy Space Centre.
Gator Wrestling - sit in the comfort of an 800 seater shaded arena to watch alligator handlers wrestle with alligators and climb onto the angry alligators back.
Upclose Encounters
Amazing animals from all over the world plus creatures from Florida's native wildlife including some of the most dangerous snakes on the planet.
Gatorland is open 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m each and every day and also offers free parking.
Current entry prices are - Adults (13 yr and over) $19.95 and Children (3 - 5 years) $12.95. Tax is not included in quoted prices.
In November 2006 an early morning fire broke out at Gatorworld and completely destroyed the entrance and gift shop.
